Anastasiya Sharkova is an Intercultural Communication Facilitator and Business Development Consultant. Her journey has been that of changing homes, cities and countries from early childhood. This flux has informed her passion, or rather necessity, for creating tight bonds between cultures and people through time and space. She uses VR as a medium for making the world feel smaller and humans in it feel closer.
Anastasiya has worked in various business development, marketing and operational roles. Her expertise spans the fields of publishing, advertising, startup incubation and venture capital, hospitality, events, and virtual reality.
With over a decade of experience studying and facilitating interpersonal and intercultural communication, Anastasiya aims to fulfill the promise of VR as a tool for empathy. From her first experience of TheBlu and the unlikely connection with its protagonist, a CGI-rendered whale, she was hooked. She went on to work with TheBlu creator on Tesseract, a social Mixed Reality startup.
Currently, she splits her time between nurturing cross-cultural connections, both virtual and real, and independently consulting early-stage startups. In addition, she serves as an advisor to mission-driven organizations, including Convergence, a research group focused on alleviating existential risks, and Urban Us, an impact fund focused on making city life better.
Her passion for VR stems from its ability to expand the boundaries of mental constructs and create new embodied experiences. Her goal is to bring the transformative power of this immersive medium to as many people as possible.
